Auto Accidents in Virginia

According to statistics from the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles, a traffic accident is reported approximately every 4.4 minutes in Virginia. Nearly three individuals lose their lives daily due to motor vehicle accidents in the state, while over 160 sustained injuries.

Numerous instances occur where individuals suffer harm from preventable accidents. Negligence remains a significant factor in nearly 9 out of 10 crashes statewide and nationwide. Leading contributors to automobile collisions include:

  • Driver fatigue or falling asleep at the wheel: When drivers are too tired to operate their vehicles, there is an increased likelihood that they will fall asleep while behind the wheel. This can result in drivers losing control of their vehicles and crashing into others.

  • Tailgating: When drivers are traveling too closely behind others, they can crash into them and cause severe harm.

  • Distracted driving: When drivers are not paying attention to the road ahead of them, they can crash into other vehicles, pedestrians, or even objects. This can have devastating consequences.

  • Reckless driving: There are many instances where drivers operate their vehicle in a reckless and negligent manner. This can result in them losing control of their vehicle and striking others nearby.

  • Failure to yield: Not yielding to traffic that has the right-of-way can lead to devastating acts and life-altering injuries.

  • Speeding: When drivers travel above the posted speed limit, they are likely to lose control of their vehicles and crash into others. Speeding also increases the severity of injuries that are suffered in accidents.

  • Driving under the influence: When drivers are impaired by drugs or alcohol, they are likely to crash into others nearby and cause severe harm.
