Newport News, VA – Seven Vehicle Truck Crash at MMMBT
Smithfield, VA (December 20, 2023) – A major motor vehicle collision took place on Monday morning in Newport News, prompting the closure of the roadway. The Virginia State Police was notified of the crash at approximately 6:40 a.m. on December 18.
According to official reports, a Ford Focus collided with a Chevrolet Malibu on the southbound side of the Monitor-Merrimac Memorial Bridge-Tunnel (MMMBT). The Chevrolet then sideswiped a tractor-trailer. The tractor-trailer then collided with a Hyundai Sonata, resulting in a chain reaction collision with two additional vehicles. One person was injured in the accident and rushed to an area hospital for emergency care. The driver of the semi-truck tractor-trailer and the driver of the Ford Focus are both facing charges for following too closely. At this time, the incident is being investigated.
