Fairfax County, VA – Pedestrian Struck and Killed at Richmond Hwy & Backlick Rd

Fairfax County, VA (December 10, 2025) – Police in Fairfax County are investigating a fatal pedestrian crash that happened Sunday night, December 7, near Lorton. Officers with the Fairfax County Police Department responded around 9:51 p.m. to the intersection of Richmond Highway and Backlick Road after calls reported a pedestrian collision.

When officers arrived, they found Roger Brown, age sixty-seven, from Fort Belvoir, in the roadway. He had suffered critical injuries. Despite emergency efforts, Brown died at the scene. The driver of a 2008 Honda Accord stayed at the location and did not suffer injuries, according to police.

Investigators believe the Honda traveled southbound on Richmond Highway as Brown crossed near Backlick Road. The sedan struck Brown during that crossing.

The investigation remains active, and police will release more information as they confirm what caused this tragedy.

We extend our deepest condolences to Mr. Brown’s family and loved ones during this painful time.

Pedestrian Accidents in VirginiaPedestrian Struck and Killed at Richmond Hwy & Backlick Rd

A fatal pedestrian collision leaves families facing grief on top of sudden financial stress. Families deserve clear answers about what happened in the crash. Pedestrian deaths often raise questions about visibility, driver attention, road design, and right of way. A wrongful death claim may allow surviving relatives to seek support when another party’s actions contributed to the fatal impact.

In cases like this, families may pursue various types of compensation, depending on the specific facts and the losses incurred. Possible damages can include:

  • Funeral and burial expenses, which cover services, burial or cremation costs, transportation, and memorial needs.
  • Medical bills tied to the final injury, including emergency response, treatment attempts, and hospital care, if any occurred before death.
  • Loss of financial support, which reflects the income and benefits the person would have provided over time.
  • Loss of household services, covering the practical help the person gave, such as childcare, home maintenance, or daily caregiving.
  • Loss of companionship and guidance, recognizing the emotional support and relationship that family members have lost.
  • Pain and suffering of survivors, which accounts for the mental and emotional toll of a sudden, preventable death.

Pedestrian fatality cases often require careful investigation. Evidence may involve crash scene measurements, vehicle data, witness accounts, and traffic signal timing. A wrongful death lawyer may also work with reconstruction experts to clarify how the collision occurred. That process can help families understand what happened and ensure insurers do not minimize the loss.

Insurance companies sometimes move quickly after a death. They may ask for statements or suggest early settlements. Families should not feel pressured to respond while they are still mourning. A legal team can handle communications, gather records, and calculate the true long-term impact of the loss.
