Landover Hills, MD – Man Critically Hurt, Firefighters Injured in House Fire on Allison St

Landover Hills, MD (March 25, 2026) – One man suffered serious injuries, and five firefighters were hurt in a house fire that broke out Monday, March 23, in Landover Hills.

Fire crews responded around 7:45 a.m. to a home in the 7400 block of Allison Street. When they arrived, flames were already coming through the roof of the single-family house. The fire quickly spread to a nearby shed behind the home.

Emergency units located a 25-year-old man inside the basement and pulled him to safety. Paramedics rushed him to a nearby hospital, where doctors listed him in critical but stable condition. Officials initially believed children might be inside, but they later confirmed the children were already at school.

While crews searched the home, five firefighters suffered minor burns. Medical teams transported them to a hospital for evaluation. Officials noted that intense heat inside the structure made conditions difficult during the rescue efforts.

Firefighters worked for about 20 minutes to bring the fire under control. Crews also removed two dogs from the home, but only one survived.

Investigators have not yet determined what caused the fire. Authorities continue to review the incident.

We extend our thoughts to those injured and hope for a steady recovery.

How Do Insurance Claims Work After a Residential Fire in Maryland?Man Critically Hurt, Firefighters Injured in House Fire on Allison St

Insurance claims after a residential fire usually begin with notifying the homeowner’s insurance provider and documenting the damage as soon as possible. Policyholders may be able to seek compensation for property damage, temporary housing, and other covered losses depending on their policy terms. Each claim follows specific steps that require clear records and communication with the insurer.

Fires can cause widespread damage beyond what is immediately visible. Smoke, heat, and water from firefighting efforts often impact walls, furniture, and personal belongings. People may need to relocate while repairs take place, which adds to overall costs. Keeping photos, receipts, and a list of damaged items helps support a more accurate claim.

In many cases, insurance companies review reports from fire investigators, adjusters, and contractors before making decisions. Delays can happen if the cause of the fire remains unclear or if damage assessments take time. Staying organized and keeping copies of all documents, including repair estimates and medical records if injuries occurred, can help keep the process moving.

A personal injury attorney can assist when injuries or disputes arise during the claims process. Legal guidance can help review policy details, explain what coverage may apply, and assist with communication between parties. This can be especially helpful when multiple factors, such as property damage and injury-related expenses, overlap.
