Fatal Auto Accidents in Virginia
In 2021, Virginia witnessed the tragic loss of 967 lives on its roads. Data from the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles reveals a concerning 15% increase in fatal traffic accidents from 2020 to 2021. Tragically, many of these fatal incidents are attributed to driver negligence, with speeding and aggressive driving ranking as the top causes of fatal accidents in Virginia.
Speeding significantly raises the risk of losing control of a vehicle and colliding with others. Exceeding the speed limit not only compromises a driver's ability to control their vehicle but also hampers their capacity to react swiftly during emergencies or changing traffic conditions.
Aggressive driving involves behaviors that directly endanger the lives of fellow road users. Actions like weaving through traffic, tailgating, or sudden braking (brake-checking) can lead to severe accidents that claim the lives of innocent individuals.
The pain of losing a loved one due to someone else's recklessness is indescribable. The realization that their death resulted from another driver's careless actions magnifies the sorrow. Depending on the circumstances of the accident, your family may have grounds to file a wrongful death claim against the accountable party.
While a wrongful death claim cannot bring back your loved one, it can help hold the responsible individual accountable for their actions. Additionally, it can offer financial support for funeral costs and related expenses. Seeking guidance from an Orange County wrongful death attorney can be instrumental in safeguarding your legal rights during this challenging time.
