Fatal Auto Accidents in Virginia

In 2023, a total of 907 lives were lost in vehicle collisions on Virginia’s roads. The Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles reports that this increase in fatalities marks a concerning trend, with a 15-year high in traffic deaths reported in 2022 alone. Many of these tragic accidents are caused by driver negligence, with speeding and aggressive driving identified as leading factors in these fatalities.

Aggressive driving includes dangerous behaviors like weaving between lanes, tailgating, and performing sudden brake-checks. These reckless actions put everyone on the road at risk, often leading to severe accidents that claim the lives of innocent people. Speeding, in particular, poses a significant danger because it reduces a driver’s ability to control their vehicle and react safely to emergencies or changes in traffic conditions.

Losing a loved one due to another driver’s recklessness is a heart-wrenching experience for any family. While nothing can bring back the person they lost, families have the option to pursue a wrongful death claim against the responsible party. Though no legal action can undo the loss, a wrongful death claim can help hold the negligent driver accountable and provide vital financial support for expenses like funeral costs and other related damages.
