Bailey’s Crossroads, VA (August 19, 2026) – A 59-year-old man died Sunday night, August 16, after being struck by a Metrobus while crossing Columbia Pike at Carlin Springs Road.
Fairfax County police officers were called to the intersection just after 8:32 p.m. for a pedestrian crash involving an F20 Metrobus.
A preliminary investigation found that the bus was stopped at a red light on Columbia Pike facing east. When the light turned green, the driver began a right turn onto Carlin Springs Rd.
The victim was crossing Carlin Springs Road from west to east in the crosswalk, with the pedestrian signal in his favor, when the bus’s front right side struck him. He was taken to a hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
The bus driver was not hurt and remained on scene. Police said alcohol and drugs do not appear to have played a part.
Investigators with the Fairfax County Police Department’s Crash Reconstruction Unit continue to piece together what led to the collision.
