Yuma, VA (July 16, 2025) – On Sunday afternoon, a Kingsport resident lost his life following a motorcycle accident in Scott County.
On July 13, Virginia State Police were dispatched to the intersection of Yuma Road and Montana Drive after receiving reports of a collision involving a motorcycle and a pickup truck. The incident occurred around 1:53 p.m. when 53-year-old Douglas Thaatcher was riding his Harley Davidson in the area. For reasons still under investigation, Thaatcher’s motorcycle collided with an oncoming Dodge pickup truck traveling in the opposite direction.
Emergency medical personnel responded to the crash scene to assist all involved parties.
