Car Accidents In Virginia

Fairfax, VA - One Killed in Multi-Vehicle Crash on I-495 Near Braddock RdUnderstanding the consequences and common outcomes of multi-vehicle accidents can help drivers stay informed and take preventive steps. Here’s a closer look at some of the most frequent causes of car crashes on Virginia roadways:

  • Distracted Driving: Using a phone, eating, or adjusting a GPS can take a driver’s attention away from the road. This delay in reaction time often leads to serious rear-end or side collisions in high-traffic areas like the beltway.
  • Speeding: Driving over the speed limit or too fast for road conditions reduces a driver’s ability to stop in time. Speed also intensifies the force of impact during crashes, increasing the likelihood of injury or fatality.
  • Improper Lane Changes: Failing to signal or check blind spots before changing lanes is a common contributor to multi-vehicle crashes. These mistakes often result in chain-reaction impacts when traffic is dense.
  • Fatigue: Tired drivers have slower reaction times and impaired judgment. Long commutes or late shifts often increase the risk of fatigue-related crashes, particularly during early morning or late afternoon hours.
  • Weather Conditions: Rain, fog, or icy roads can reduce visibility and traction. Drivers who do not adjust their speed or braking accordingly often cause accidents, especially on high-speed roadways.
